Fitness: Can I do this tour?

It is very important that customers understand that a reasonable level of fitness is required for all tours.

The areas in which we operate vary greatly in  terrain and weather conditions. Travellers may be required to undertake walking experiences up to 4 hours in duration in challenging conditions. Travellers must be aware that depending on which region the tour is visiting  & the southern hemisphere weather season in which you are travelling, you could encounter extremes of heat ( 40C+) or cold (-5C).

By law it is required that customers advise Real Kiwi Adventures or our travel partners in New Zealand of any pre-existing medical conditions &/or Dietary conditions before they join the tour. Customers may also be asked at time of each tour commencement to sign a liability waiver.

Day 1: Auckland to Hahei
Our first days sees you leaving Auckland in the morning and heading to the Coromandel Peninsula, stopping in Thames- an old colonial town, along the way. Make yourself at home in your Hahei accommodation, then slip on some bathers as we head to Hot Water Beach. Depending on the tide, you can dig your own natural spa on the beach, or go for a swim. Either way, you'll find yourself extremely relaxed!

Day 2: Day to explore Hahei
Today you have the full day to experience the Coromandel lifestyle anyway you like. Choose from many of the activities the Coromandel has to offer- like a peaceful kayak to a hidden-treasure known as Cathedral Cove, or jump on a glass-bottom boat to get a first-hand glimpse at the beautiful underwater life. Otherwise, you can adventure for free on a scenic coastal walk, or simply relax as you watch the sunrise over the ocean's horizon.

Day 3: Hahei to Raglan
An early start sees us travel from Hahei to the scenic Waikato River. Visit Raglan's world-famous black sand and surf beaches, and explore beautiful Bridal Veil Falls along the way. Whether you're an adventurer, or just want to chill out, this funky surf and arts town has it all.
Accommodation: An eco-lodge surrounded by native bush near the beach

Free Activities: Waterfall walk, relax on the beach, spot glowworms in the bush, West Coast sunset, Inspiration Point.

Day 4: Raglan (via Waitomo) to Rotorua
Depart 8am. Our next destination is rural town Waitomo, where you can venture into its famous caves and see glowworms. We'll then head to Rotorura, our overnight destination, where you have the opportunity to tour the Hobbiton Movie Set for the afternoon, or check out other cool scenic and tourist attractions in this popular town.

Optional Activities: Waitomo must-do caving options, Hobbiton Movie Set tour.
Free Activities: Walk around Ruakuri Reserve, Waitomo Valley Caves walk.

Day 5: Rotorua to Lake Aniwhenua
Today you have a free morning to get one last taste of the beautiful Rotorura, then at midday, we head to the remote area of Lake Aniwhenua. Here, we will meet a local Maori guide who will show us the area's sacred sites and take us to a local Marae for a tradition welcome and afternoon tea. The evening sees us experience a traditional Hangi dinner at our scenic lakeside accommodation. (D)

Day 6: Lake Aniwhenua to Whakahoro
This morning we head to Taupo to see the picturesque Huka Falls, and those brave enough have the opportunity to try skydiving! At 10am we leave for Blue Duck Station, a 5,200-acre high country farm that is a leader in environmental conservation, and a working station. Spend the rest of the day enjoying stories about this unique region and experiencing what makes it such a special place. (B)

Free activities: Walk around the truly amazing property at Whakahoro and take in the lush scenery, walk to the Kaiwhakauka waterfall, enjoy your hosts’ hospitality and stories on the local wildlife and history.

Day 7: Exploring in Whakahoro
Today you have a whole day to thoroughly explore this truly amazing and secluded location. You don't have to go too far, as there are plenty of farming and conservation-based activities for you to enjoy right here on the property- like an eco-warrior four-wheel drive farm tour!

Day 8: Whakahoro to National Park
A 6am start sees us head to the active volcanoes of Tongariro National Park- which is also a World Heritage Site. You will then have the opportunity to experience what is thought of as one of the best one-day walks in the world: the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Expect unbelievable scenery as you explore the base of the epic "Mt Doom" from the Lord of the Rings films.

Free activities: Taranaki Falls walk, visit the Volcanic Centre.

Day 9: National Park to Wellington
We depart at 8:30am to head through Ohakune, Taihape and Bulls to arrive in Wellington- New Zealand's capital city. You have a free afternoon to stroll down the popular Cuba Street, with its variety of shops and cafes, to visit New Zealand museum Te Papa, or even just take a stroll along the waterfront.
Accommodation: Central city hostel
Free Activities: Walk Oriental Parade, head up Mt Victoria for fantastic views, visit Te Papa National Museum.

Day 10: Wellington to Marahau
We check-in to our 8am Blubridge Ferry ride at 7am, to make our way to Picton on the South Island to jump on the Stray bus. Once aboard the bus, we will drive through the world famous Marlborough vineyard region and the coastal town of Nelson. Continuing through Motueka, we then head to our amazing overnight stop Marahau, with our accommodation located right on the edge of the Abel Tasman National Park.

Day 11: FREE day in Marahau
Today you have the whole day to explore the stunning coastal national park anyway you like. Adventure by land, sea or air, or just relax by the scenic beach- there is something great for everyone here.
Accommodation: Unique accommodation on the edge of the national park.
Included Activities: Walk part of the Abel Tasman track and catch an Aqua Taxi home.
Optional Activities: Full day sailing trip, kayaking, skydiving, hang gliding.

Day 12: Marahau to Westport
Today we head south, making our way through Buller Gorge and along a stretch of road Lonely Plant labeled as one of the Top 10 drives in the world. We stop in to visit the seal colony at Cape Foulwind, then head to Westport, a historic coal mining town. Settle in to your accommodation in time to see the impressive sunset on a clear night.
Accommodation: Charming character villa in the centre of town.

Day 13: Westport to Franz Josef
We rise early today to head down the rugged West Coast to see the remarkable Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and blowholes. Be sure to grab some refreshments at the café before to another of our historic gold mining towns, Greymouth. We make a stop in Hokitika before heading to our next overnight destination, the small town of Franz Josef, where you will find the mighty Franz Josef Glacier.
Accommodation: Lodge in the middle of the rainforest
Included Activities: Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and their mighty blowholes, Truman Track walk.

Day 14: Franz Josef day to explore
Enjoy a full free day today. Explore the glacier however you like- with a guided tour on the glacier itself, or simply hike to view it from below. After all that hard work, take it upon yourself to relax in the spa pools.

Optional Activities: Ice Explorer Trip (short helicopter flight onto the glacier), Glacier Valley Walk

Day 15: Franz Josef to Wanaka
Depart at 8am. We stop at Lake Matheson for a walk and great photo opportunity at the amazing mirrored lake, and then at Fox Glacier where we do pickups. We then continue through the mountainous Haast Pass and Makarora, and pass by the stunning Lake Hawea to arrive in Wanaka late afternoon.

Free Activities: Lake Matheson walk, Ship Creek walk, Blue Pools walk, Thundercreek Falls walk, explore Wanaka.

Day 16: Wanaka to Queenstown
Experience the scenic lake on a guided bike tour this morning, before we depart at 10:30am. We then head down to the world-famous A.J. Hackett bungy site, where you can jump, swing or luge down the mountain! Next we move on to Queenstown, the 'Adventure Capital of the World', which has amazing restaurants, great pubs and live music on offer, so just wait and see where the night takes you!

Days 17, 18 & 19 – Queenstown
No need to worry about time to get everything done- you've got three day in Queenstown! Day 17 sees you start the day with an exhilarating Shotover Jet Boat ride, whilst day 18 takes a more relaxed route with a full day trip to the mesmerising Doubtful Sound. Day 19 is your last day in this cool town, so you have a completely free day to experience it however you like.
Accommodation: Central hostel in Queenstown
Included Activities: Shotover Jet (Day 17) and Doubtful Sound day trip (Day 18)
Optional Activities: Any adventure activity that we mad Kiwis can dream up Bungy, swing, jetboating, skydiving, mountain biking, zipline, horse riding or a day tour to Milford Sound.
Free Activities: Sleep in, great walks, take in beautiful views from this cool resort town.

Day 20: Queenstown to Aoraki/Mt Cook
We say goodbye to Queenstown at 8:40am. We make our way over the Lindis pass through the incredibly scenic Mackenzie Country and swing past Lake Pukaki. Heading north, we continue on to arrive at our stunning accommodation at the base Aoraki/Mt Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain, in the early afternoon.

Optional Activities: Visit the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre
Free Activities: Take photos of awe-inspiring scenery, do one of the many great short walks to the Hooker Glacial Lake.

Day 21: Mt Cook to Rangitata
Depart 10am. We make our way to explore the ‘Lord of the Rings’ landscape of Rangitata, then head to the turquoise Lake Tekapo, where activities like snow tubing, ice-skating or a swim at the hot springs follow. We stop in small, boutique town Geraldine in the early afternoon, and then continue on to our accommodation for the night in Rangitata.
Accommodation: One of Canterbury’s original sheep stations
Optional Activities: Horse ride through Peel Forest.
Free Activities: Take photos of stunning scenery, go for a walk.

Day 22: Rangitata to Kaikoura
We depart at 7:30am for a short trip heading to Christchurch through the Canterbury Plains, to arrive at Christchurch International Airport at 9:40am, for drop offs and pick ups. We then begin a scenic drive along the coast, on our way to beach town Kaikoura. Here, you have the rest of the afternoon to yourself to explore and experience the fun activities the town has on offer- like observing the incredible array of marine wildlife.
Accommodation: Warm modern hostel
Optional Activities: Whale watching, swimming with seals, piloting your own plane or swimming with dolphins. Try the amazing fresh fish and chips!
Free activities: Walk around the peninsula and up to the lookout.

Day 23: Kaikoura to Wellington
On our last full day of the tour, we depart at 8:30am. We cruise up the scenic coastal roads, stopping for plenty of photos and to observe a seal colony. Then, we jump on a ferry to head over the Cook Strait and back to Wellington.

Day 24: Wellington north (via Taupo) to Auckland
We depart early today, at 6:40am. We travel to Auckland via Taupo, arriving in the early evening.
