Fitness: Can I do this tour?

It is very important that customers understand that a reasonable level of fitness is required for all tours.

The areas in which we operate vary greatly in  terrain and weather conditions. Travellers may be required to undertake walking experiences up to 4 hours in duration in challenging conditions. Travellers must be aware that depending on which region the tour is visiting  & the southern hemisphere weather season in which you are travelling, you could encounter extremes of heat ( 40C+) or cold (-5C).

By law it is required that customers advise Real Kiwi Adventures or our travel partners in New Zealand of any pre-existing medical conditions &/or Dietary conditions before they join the tour. Customers may also be asked at time of each tour commencement to sign a liability waiver.

  • Tours should be reconfirmed at least 48 hours in advance by calling +64 9 526 2140.
  • Winter tours will operate in conjunction with the Stray Travel Network allowing all Real Kiwi winter departures to be 100% guaranteed. Clients will still have a set itinerary with included accommodation and activities however less meals are included and the guide and group may change during the tour.
  • Luggage should be restricted to 15kg in a single bag, plus a small day pack.

Day 1 - Auckland to Hahei

Depart Auckland in the morning and head south to the Coromandel Peninsula via the old colonial town of Thames. We’ll settle into our accommodation in Hahei before heading to Hot Water Beach, where you can dig your own natural spa pool in the sand (tidal dependent). Exclusive accommodation by the waterfront. Highlight of today is the Hot Water Beach visit.

Day 2 - Explore Haihei

Today you have a full free day to embrace the laid back Coromandel lifestyle. Get up early to catch the sunrise on the beach, then take a scenic coastal walk or opt to kayak to stunning Cathedral Cove. You can also take a glass bottom boat tour through the nearby marine reserve. Exclusive accommodation by the waterfront. Optional today is Kayaking or glass bottom boat tour. Day 3 - Hahei to Raglan

We leave Hahei early to travel towards the mighty Waikato River. Our destination is the world-renowned Raglan surf beach, with cow spotting and a walk to Bridal Veil Falls on the way. Chill out on the beach or go hard surfing the waves in this funky surf and arts town. An eco-lodge surrounded by native bush near the beach. Optional Learn to surf. Highlights of today are Waterfall walk, relaxing on the beach, spotting glowworms in the bush, West Coast sunset, Inspiration Point.

Day 4 - Raglan (Via Waitomo) to Rotorua

Head to the rural town of Waitomo this morning for the chance to explore its famous cave systems and see the twinkling glowworms. We then carry on towards our overnight stop Rotorua, where you can spend the afternoon touring the Hobbiton Movie Set or checking out this popular tourist town. Comfortable central city lodge in Rotorua. Your optional activity today is Waitomo ‘must do’ caving options or the world famous Hobbiton Movie Set tour. You can take a walk around Ruakuri Reserve and do the Waitomo Valley Caves walk.

Day 5 - Rototua to Lake Aniwhenua

Today is a feast for the senses as we journey to Rotorua and discover its distinct smell thanks to its high level of geothermal activity. The morning is free to try one of the many adventure activities on offer in Rotorua. We depart Rotorua at midday and drive into the remote area of Lake Aniwhenua. We will meet a local Maori guide who will take us to visit the area’s sacred sites and a local Marae for a traditional welcome and afternoon tea. Tonight, we feast on a ground cooked hangi dinner at our lakeside accommodation. Scenic lakefront lodge at Lake Aniwhenua is where we sleep tonight. Included on tour is the Kohutapu Experience – guided tour of sacred Maori rock carvings, Marae experience, afternoon tea, delicious ground cooked hangi feast and buffet breakfast. Optional activities today are White water rafting, zorbing, ziplining

Day 6 - Lake Aniwhenua to Whakahoro

After breakfast it is onto Taupo to see Huka Falls, the most-visited natural attraction in New Zealand. For the brave we have time for skydiving! In the afternoon, we make our way to Blue Duck Station, an award-winning 7,200 acre high country farm that is both a working station and an environmental conservation leader. Settle in and spend the evening learning a little more about what makes this unique destination one of Stray’s top rated stops. Country station lodge and breakfast. Optional today is Skydiving! Explore Huka Falls, enjoy your hosts’ hospitality and stories on the local wildlife and history.

Day 7 - Free Day in Whakahoro

Today you have a free day to explore this truly amazing and secluded location in depth. There are plenty of farming and conservation-based activities for you to immerse yourself in an authentic New Zealand station experience. Country station lodge. We take you on the Eco-Warrior 4WD farm tour. Optional activities are Horse riding, clay pigeon shooting and goat hunting. Highlights today are a walk around the property, taking in the lush scenery and walking to the Kaiwhakauka waterfall.

Day 8 - Whakahoro to Tongariro

An early start to travel onto the World Heritage Site of Tongariro National Park and its active volcanoes. You will have the chance to embark on what is rated one of the world's best one day walks - the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. The scenery on this hike is absolutely breathtaking and movie buffs will also recognise 'Mt Doom' from the Lord of the Rings films as you walk around the base. (Please note that you may have to pay a local supplement for an alpine guide and hiking equipment) Accommodation tonight is at the Alpine lodge. Explore the Taranaki Falls and visit the Volcanic Centre. Optional activity is the Tongariro crossing.

Day 9 - Tongariro National Park to Wellington

After almost a week in the wilderness, we head to the 'big smoke' of Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city. On our way there we will pass through the quirky towns of Ohakune, Taihape and Bulls. You have the afternoon to cruise around the shops and cafes along popular Cuba Street, explore the New Zealand wonders found in Te Papa or stroll along the waterfront. Stay in Wellington at Central city hostel. Walk Oriental Parade, head up Mt Victoria for fantastic views, visit Te Papa National Museum.

Day 10 - Wellington to Auckland

Today is a very early departure out of Wellington - this is an express day via Taupo to Auckland, where your trip comes to an end when you arrive in the early evening. We hope you had a blast on your Real Kiwi Adventure tour.
