New Zealand is fast becoming a mecca for bike enthusiasts.

The Government is investing in a program to develop Great Rides through rural regions, local mountain bike groups are actively creating new places to bike, and NZers are buying bikes at an increasing rate. It all creates a friendlier atmosphere for cyclists.

For those who like the idea of a tour but also want some time on the bike, there are tours that combine the best of both worlds.

These camping tours structure most days to allow for a bike ride. The bikes are carried on the vehicle's trailer. You can bring your own bike (there is a handling cost) or you can hire a bike for the duration of the tour.

The rides are generally shorter in duration to enable a different way of seeing the region you are passing through. It might be a leisurely ride back from the beach to your overnight campsite; or something longer to get part of the way to a destination. The vehicle will meet you at the end of a section of riding.

Even the tours that don't involve cycling in most of their itinerary days, include at least a taste of cycling. These accommodated tours include time on one day cycling on the Central Otago Rail Trail.
