Otago Rail Trail
The Otago Rail Trail is a 150km cyclist's delight. This converted railway line now caters to thousands of cycling enthusiasts each year who cycle along the relatively flat line through the unique central Otago countryside.
Tours travelling through this region and staying at Naseby will ride a section of the trail with bikes provided. It's easy riding along well worn and looked after trails, so even the novice cyclist can participate.
This part of the country is as historic as it is iconic in its understated beauty. The parched-brown, tussock covered hills of summer and cold dry winters with snow-capped ranges provide a great backdrop. This part of the country is another side of the green forested imagery normally used to portray New Zealand.
Gold mining and farming opened the Otago region to European settlement and agriculture now drives the economy here.
