Hanmer Springs is one of the few places in the South Island where you can swim in naturally occurring thermal springs. The water is heated within the earth and naturally comes to the surface here. The springs are diverted into comfortable pools at different temperatures. Steam, sauna and massage treatments are also available at the springs.
Hanmer Springs is also the name of the town that surrounds the springs. The town is located south west of Kaikoura, in the district of north Canterbury. It is a conveniently located for those enroute to cross the Southern Alps via the Lewis Pass.
