Frequently Asked Questions

DO I NEED TO RECONFIRM MY TOUR?

Yes, it is important to call at least 48 hours prior to departure to confirm pick-up location and time. The number to call is on your travel voucher. If your agent hasn’t provided the operator number to call, you will find it on the tour page of trip you are doing on the website on the left hand side under the “Tour Company” information.

HOW FIT DO I HAVE TO BE?

It is very important that customers understand that a reasonable level of fitness is required for all tours.

The areas in which we operate vary greatly in terrain and weather conditions. Travellers may be required to undertake walking experiences up to 4 hours in duration in challenging conditions. Travellers must be aware that depending on which region the tour is visiting & the southern hemisphere weather season in which you are travelling, you could encounter extremes of heat (40C+) or cold (-5C).

By law it is required that customers advise Real Kiwi Adventures or our travel partners in Australia of any pre-existing medical conditions &/or Dietary conditions before they join the tour. Customers may also be asked at time of each tour commencement to sign a liability waiver.

Travellers are requested to consult with their travel agent or contact us on: enquiries@realkiwiadventures.com in relation to all medical or dietary issues.

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ON MY TOUR?

This all depends on the type of vehicle you are travelling. The vehicle type is noted on the left hand side of the tour page that relates to your tour.

The maximum number of people who might be on your tour reflects the number of available seats on your vehicle. Different tours have different sized Mini Coaches. The size of the vehicle noted for a specific tour is noted on the respective tour pages.

All vehicles have forward facing seats in an air-conditioned vehicle.

  • Mini Coach - 30 seats
  • Mini Coach - 24 seats

WHERE WILL I SLEEP?

Different tours have different types of accommodation. A single tour might have several different types of accommodation. Generally speaking, one style of accommodation is used on a single tour. Accommodation ranges from camping (swags or permanent campsites ) through to backpacker hostels and hotel options. The accommodation type is noted on the tour page for the trip that you are doing on the left hand side of the page.

Different tours have different inclusions, but these are the general inclusions on all tours:

  • Experienced guide
  • Sightseeing
  • Meals as indicated
  • Camping equipment and fees
  • Accommodation (except on Hop On Hop Off tours)
  • Reference books
  • National parks fees

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Different regions at different times of the year will require different considerations. Winter can be very cold. Your main consideration should be sunburn and dehydration where ever you are. Being out in the sun in the Southern Hemisphere is quite different to the experience in the Northern Hemisphere.

HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I BRING?

You should keep your luggage under 20kg in one soft bag. You can then take an additional day pack on the vehicle with you.

WHAT WILL I EAT?

Meals that are included will depend on the tour taken.

Breakfast will comprise of hot and continental options depending on the day.

Lunch is generally open sandwiches of freshly prepared salads and cold meats.

Dinner can

If you are a vegetarian you will eat as well as anyone else.

CAN I BOOK THE TOURS OPEN DATED?

Many of the tours are operating so regularly you can book the tours from your country of origin with an "open-dated voucher". This means if you are not 100% certain of the day you want to travel then you can simply call our partners in New Zealand at least 7 days before departure. Better to call earlier to ensure you can get a confirmed seat.

ARE TIPS TO THE GUIDE INCLUDED?

You will notice in New Zealnd that tipping or gratuity is not common practice amongst locals. This is because standard wages are a lot higher than in typical “tipping countries”. If you are impressed with your guide – which is likely – then feel free to buy him or her a drink on your last night or a little gift to say thanks but know that tipping is in no way expected, so save your money for the fun.

ARE ALL TOUR DEPARTURES GUARANTEED?

A minimum number of 4 passengers are required to operate each tour. It may therefore be necessary to cancel a scheduled departure and to offer an alternative or full refund for that tour if minimum numbers are not met.

CAN I BOOK AIR TICKETS 

Real Kiwi Adventures does not offer bookings for air, cars or hotels. We specialise in small independent adventure tours in New Zealand. For other travel information, we recommend you contact your local licensed travel agent.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

It is the traveller's personal responsibility to purchase their own travel insurance to cover any liability which may be incurred to us or a Service Provider. We strongly recommend that clients source travel insurance against illness, injury, loss/damage to personal belongings and not being able to travel on the confirmed departure date. Ask your travel agent or contact us for a quote.
